My first visit came as a bit of a shock with the amount of questions about my health and the colour charts to exactly pinpoint my ‘period’ colour was certainly unexpected. However, as I’d said, I was prepared to give anything a go if it helped us conceive so just went along with it.
I had some acupuncture the first time and was surprised to find it hurt very little. Subsequent visits, I guess because I was more relaxed, hurt even less. Within the first month I noticed slight changes with my body which seemed to indicate that the acupuncture was working.
At the same time we were having tests at the hospital and were told that the only way we were going to conceive was to go down the dreaded IVF route. I read up a bit more about this and found that if IVF is supplemented with acupuncture, then there is a significant increase in your chances of conceiving.
It is also fair to say that when you are told you have to go down the IVF route that mentally it is a struggle and I did find that acupuncture helped me with a ‘chin up/positive’ attitude.
To cut a long story short we had our first go at IVF and we’re now over 8 months pregnant eagerly awaiting the arrival of our baby.
I have no doubt that acupuncture played a big part, both physically and mentally to get us this far.
I would like to take this opportunity to extend my gratitude to you for the, now realised, wonders you have helped create.
When I first visited you I was unhappy, depressed and on medication for many various problems. I also had diagnosed “significant” endometriosis.
In July of this year (approx. 2 months after my last acupuncture session with you) I went into hospital to have a laparoscopy to have some of the endometriosis lasered off to increase, in vain hope, my chances of fertility. When I came too, and on a subsequent visit to the consultant, I was informed that there was no evidence of endometriosis during the laparoscopy and therefore nothing was done during the procedure (although from the pain and recovery time I experienced this is still hard to believe!!!).
I was told that I now had “unexplained infertility” and sent on my way to consider IUI or IVF. I said I would think about it in the New Year….I have to say though at this point, my emotional state in dealing with this was still positive, I was still drug free and felt better than I had in a year emotionally.
I think you may have guessed what has prompted this email and my gratitude to you. I am now 10 weeks pregnant quite naturally and very unplanned!
I first read about the clinic in a target advertisement and you had two ladies who wrote similar stories to the one I am now able to tell. I have to be honest and say after my 10th visit to you I had become slightly disillusioned and the reason for my abrupt stop as a client was due to the fact that I had begun to re-focus on getting pregnant and that was not what I had wanted; however I also felt better in myself which had a positive effect on what had become a fraught marriage and I did feel able to “cope” with anything I was dealt better than I had for a long time.
I would once again like to say a huge thank you – I truly believe the acupuncture did indeed rid my body of the endometriosis and as a result I am now expecting the child I have so longed for over 3 years.
A miracle ??
I had always suffered from painful periods and was diagnosed with endometriosis after trying to have a baby for 5 years. Conventional medicine offered little help and IVF treatment was considered my only hope of having children. I had a cycle of unsuccessful IVF treatment in October 2004 and believed a child was simply not meant to be. I was about to undergo a second cycle when a friend suggested that Acupuncture improved IVF success rates. I made an appointment with Sean who said to wait until he had treated me with acupuncture for my original condition. Within [a few treatments], I had conceived a baby and Thomas was born in October 2005. I had acupuncture throughout my pregnancy and had a healthy, trouble-free pregnancy and a perfect little boy. I cannot put into works the amazing gift that acupuncture has given me and thank The Sean Barkes Clinic[Clinic of Traditional Chinese Medicine] and the treatment Sean provided.
I have suffered from extremely painful periods for as long as I can remember. Having tried to conceive for approximately 18 months, a laparoscopy revealed I was suffering from endometriosis which had partially destroyed and blocked my fallopian tubes. We were told by the consultant that our only option was IVF treatment. After a further 3 years and two failed IVF attempts I decided to try acupuncture treatment. The IVF clinic had promoted the use of acupuncture and I know that it had proved beneficial for some patients. My first acupuncture treatment resulted in my first relatively pain-free period and each period after that came with even less pain. After approximately 5 months of successful treatment I discovered I had conceived naturally. I am now 14 weeks pregnant.
I was apprehensive on my first visit to the Sean Barkes clinic as I had little knowledge about acupuncture. However, having suffered a miscarriage 9 months previously and had no luck conceiving since then I was keen to try another approach. I was a little taken aback when Jan started by asking me everything about my life – from diet and exercise, to sleeping patterns, bowel movements, medical history and of course menstrual cycle. It was great to have someone really listen and I found myself talking about things that I hadn’t mentioned to anyone before. Jan has been completely fantastic – she listens to my concerns, gives her matter of fact views on what the problem might be very clearly and simply and inspires me with confidence that acupuncture will be able to help. The acupuncture itself is unnerving for the first few sessions but once the needles are in it is very relaxing and I always end up falling asleep. I am amazed by how accurate it can be and a single needle on one session can have an immediate effect such as stopping bleeding mid cycle or eradicating period pains. I really feel like I am doing something positive and the advice on diet and lifestyle has been invaluable too. My cycle is now improving and I hope to be ovulating regularly soon so that I have the best possible chance of conceiving.
