Chinese medicine, which has treated health problems specific to women for literally thousands of years, has a sophisticated understanding of the natural rhythm of the female reproductive system and how this interacts with the rest of her being. Both the regular monthly cycle, and the gradual cessation of this cycle during the menopause, are seen as being in harmony with the gentle rhythms of the natural world.
Problems such as period pain, pre-menstrual syndrome, menopausal syndrome etc. are seen as imbalances within or interruptions to this harmony. Treatment, rather than simply suppressing the problem, aims to restore that harmony so that a woman moves smoothly through the months and years just as the seasons slowly change or as the moon waxes and wanes.

The Sean Barkes Clinic does not claim to cure any conventional medical disease states. Traditional Chinese Medicine seeks to re-establish and maintain the harmonious function of the human body-mind using tried and tested principles that have been discovered and matured over millennia. A Western medical diagnosis provides very little by way of insight in informing a Chinese Medical diagnosis. Patients usually recognise their own condition in terms of the medical disease category that they have been given by their GP or other conventional medical practitioner. The research presented here is merely an indication of the potential to draw parallels between Traditional Chinese Medicine and Modern Western Medicine.
